The New Honda Accord Hybrid Imported from Japan Makes its First Appearance in Taiwan


Taipei, Taiwan - The new Honda Accord HYBRID imported from Japan is launched in Taiwan today with Honda’s latest top-notch technologies. Powered by “SPORT HYBRID    i-MMD (Intelligent Multi Mode Drive)” developed under “Earth Dreams Technology”, the new Accord HYBRID delivers powerful performance. The new Honda Accord Hybrid comes with advanced and innovative active and passive safety technologies, including “Honda SENSING”, which was developed to provide greater safety for everyone sharing the same road under Honda’s “Safety for Everyone” concept.
 
The new Accord with i-MMD provides a maximum output of 215 horsepower, while recording super fuel efficiency of 23.7km/L. Safety
To pursue Honda’s global safety concept, “Safety for Everyone”, the new Honda HYBRID incorporates multiple revolutionary active andpassive safety technologies for drivers, passengers and pedestrians
 
With the exclusive G-CON technology and ACE Body Structure, the new Honda Accord HYBRID enhances energy absorption of the engine compartment, reduces the chance of deformation of the passenger compartment and achieved enhanced occupant protection. The new Accord HYBRID comes with standard safety equipment including Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Motion Adaptive Electric Power Steering (MA-EPS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Brake Override System (BOS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Besides these standard features, the vehicle is also equipped with Honda LaneWatchTM blind spot assist, Multi-angle Rearview Camera, LED headlights with Daytime Running Lights, 6 airbags including dual front i-SRS airbags, i-Side airbags, and Side curtain airbags, and ISOFIX attachment points for child safety seats.
 
The new Honda Accord offers advanced safety system, Honda SENSING, which is a system consisting of two types of sensors with different characteristics. One is a millimeter-wave radar and the other is a monocular camera mounted on the upper, inside part of the windshield. Honda SENSING features six intelligent active safety systems including:
 
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
The millimeter-wave radar and monocular camera detect the distance and speed gap from the vehicle ahead. The system controls the acceleration and braking operations so that an appropriate distance will be maintained (operating speed: 30 to 180 km/h).
 
Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
The millimeter-wave radar and monocular camera detect vehicles directly in front, oncoming vehicles and pedestrians. When there is a risk of collision with a vehicle in front or a pedestrian, the system provides the driver with audio and visual warnings. When the distance gets closer, the system automatically applies gentle brake pressure to give a sensory warning to the driver. When the distance gets even closer, the system automatically brakes hard to support the driver’s collision avoidance effort. Moreover, when the vehicle strays into an oncoming lane and there is a risk of collision with oncoming vehicles, the system provides audio and visual warnings as well as vibrations on the steering wheel to facilitate the driver’s collision avoidance actions. When no action is taken by the driver to avoid collision, the system applies braking force to help reduce the impact speed to mitigate any damage in the case of collision (operating speed against preceding cars: 5 km/h or above; against pedestrians and oncoming cars: 5~100 km/h).
 
Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
The monocular camera detects the lane boundaries, and if the vehicle is likely to stray from a detected lane, the system will give a visual warning on the display and vibrations on the steering wheel. In addition, the system will apply corrective steering input to bring the vehicle back in the lane. When the system forecasts that the vehicle is straying too far off, the system will apply braking force to prevent the vehicle from driving off the road  ( operating speed: 72~180 km/h)
 
Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
The monocular camera detects the lane that the vehicle is driving in. The system will assist the driver’s steering during highway driving to keep the vehicle in the middle of the lane and to reduce the burden on the driver. When the vehicle is likely to stray from the lane while the system is applying control over the steering, the system will warn the driver with vibrations on the steering wheel (operates in when the vehicle is driven at 65 km/h or faster).
 

Powertrain
Developed under Earth Dreams Technology, the new Accord HYBRID features “SPORT HYBRID i-MMD” to provide unparalleled performance and perfect driving experience deriving from the racetrack.
 
Working together with 2.0 Atkinson DOHC i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine and Electric Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT), the Accord HYBRID provides fuel consumption of 23.7km/L, which offers a better rate comparing to compact car. The total hybrid system provides the maximum 215 horsepower and 32.1 kgm of torque. The new Honda Accord HYBRID undoubtedly realizes both high fuel economy and powerful performance in the same time.

The new Honda Accord Hybrid has a smart hybrid system with changeable driving modes suitable for all driving conditions:
 
EV Drive Mode
All-electric drive EV Drive operation occurs when starting from a stop, during light cruising. The gasoline engine is off when the i-MMD is in EV Drive mode and is decoupled from the drivetrain to reduce friction.
 
Engine Drive Mode
When cruising at medium to high speeds, the high-efficiency Atkinson-cycle i-VTEC gasoline engine provides propulsion via a new higher capacity lock-up clutch, which connects the generator motor (always linked to the engine) and the electric drive motor, effectively sending motive power directly from the engine to the drive wheels.
 
Hybrid Drive Mode
The electric propulsion motor alone powers the front wheels, as the gasoline engine (decoupled from the drive wheels) powers the electric-generator motor, which in turn provides power to the battery pack. This allows the gas engine-generator motor combo to supplement the battery by providing added electrical power to the propulsion motor or, alternatively, to charge the battery.
