New Honda Freed ready to hit the road,sets the trend in multipurpose utility vehicles that match all lifestyles
Bangkok – 4 September 2012:  Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has announced the newly-designed Honda Freed, taking the lead in the trend of stylish yet highly-practical family vehicles. The new Honda Freed features a unique, distinctive and sporty style while providing unmatched utility. It’s filled with ideal comfort and convenience throughout the journey.  The new Honda Freed is now available in two models: the SE priced at 839,000 Baht and the EL priced at 949,000 Baht. Sales for the new Freed are expected to reach 12,000 units within one year.

The new Honda Freed features a striking new look. It comes equipped with a newly-designed front bumper; multi-reflector headlights; a new chrome front grill; new tail lamps with chrome accents; a tailgate spoiler; and newly-designed alloy wheels. With its fully-equipped cabin, the new Freed provides more comfort for all journeys with leather seats, armrests on the front and second rows of seats. It also provides a fun-to-drive experience with a radio; an MP3 player with a 7-inch LCD touch screen, and USB and AUX connectivity for peripherals, a DVD player with a 10-inch LCD screen for the rear seating area, plus audio system controls on the steering wheel and connection via Bluetooth (available only in the EL model) to fulfill happiness for all lifestyles. The left- and right-side power sliding doors mark a unique feature of the Honda Freed which helps strengthen Honda’s leadership in the multipurpose utility vehicle (MUV) segment.

According to Mr. Pitak Pruittisarikorn, Executive Vice President, Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd., “The launch of the new Honda Freed demonstrates another commitment by Honda to create automotive innovations that meet various demands and lifestyles of our customers. The current consumer trend has changed significantly. They are looking for automobiles that can provide high utility. A more multipurpose utility car is becoming the preferred choice. The demand in MUVs has become a popular trend in many markets including Japan and Europe”.

“In Thailand, the latest insights into urban lifestyles show a growing demand for MUVs, the vehicle that can serve their multi-faceted lifestyles. Working people have more daily activities at home and at their jobs, social gatherings with families and friends, as well as running their businesses.  This is why Honda sees the market potential and is driving the compact MUV trend by bringing the Freed into the Thai market. We see the growing trend and demand for MUVs here in Thailand,” added Pitak.

The Honda Freed, a multipurpose utility vehicle, made its debut in Japan in May 2008. It rapidly grew into one of the most popular vehicles in Japan. Within a year, Honda Freed sales reached more than 77,000 units, and it also won the “Best Value Performance” category in the Japan Car of the Year Award for 2008-2009. Honda began importing the Freed to sell in Thailand in late 2009, and has received a good response from customers since then, with 11,400 units sold from January 2010 through to July 2012.

Mr. Sompop Patipanthada, Marketing Division Manager for Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd. explained that the Freed’s feature highlights are a fully-equipped spacious cabin, being easy to drive and safety. The Honda Freed cabin is Open Café style with seating for up to seven.  The third row is a foldable seat for storage and multi-purpose use. A central aisle is provided for convenient walk-through. The automatic left- and right-hand sliding side doors make it easier to get in and out of the vehicle, especially when parked in a narrow space.

“The Honda Freed is an ideal solution that fulfills three dimensions of urban lifestyles.  The first dimension: the Honda Freed is a convenient car for hobby activities as it can carry golf equipment, surfboards and bicycles. The second dimension is to fulfill the happiness of family members throughout their journey. The third dimension is to provide convenience at work, especially for those who need to carry equipment for their work, such as photographers, architects and business owners. The Honda Freed is an all-in-one vehicle, ideal for all people, families and lifestyles, and suitable both for those starting a new family as well as large, extended families,” said Sompop.

The marketing communications program will be activated under the concept of “The Journey of Love”, focusing on the experience of happy living with a Honda Freed as a companion. Honda plans to introduce a TV commercial to communicate the love story between the owner of a flower shop and the owner of a musical instrument shop, with the Honda Freed as the beginning of their journey of love. The soundtrack for the commercial uses the song “Khon Khang Khang” (Person Beside You) by indie band “Twenty Five Hours”, with lyrics that perfectly match the story. The new commercial will start airing on September 5, 2012. Additionally, Honda plans to unveil three Clipisodes in “The Journey of Love” series, which are available online at www.honda.co.th/Freed.

The 7-seat Honda Freed comes with a powerful SOHC i-VTEC 1.5 liter, 4-cylinder, 16-valve engine that generates up to 118 horsepower. It’s 5-speed automatic transmission and electronic Grade Logic Control ensure rapid response and fun-to-drive performance.  Direct Control and Shift Hold Control help to maintain speed when driving around curves.  Other innovative features include rack and pinion steering, electronic power steering (EPS) and the smallest turning radius of only 5.2 meters. 

The new Honda Freed is available in two models.  The SE, priced at 839,000 Baht, comes with a chromium front grill; newly-designed front bumper; multi-reflector headlights; new tail lamps with chrome accents; a tailgate spoiler, and newly-designed alloy wheels. In addition, the driver’s seat features a high adjuster that provides more privacy and comfort for all journeys, as do armrests for the front and second rows of seats.
The Honda Freed EL model, priced at 949,000 Baht, is more luxurious with comfortable leather seats; a radio; an MP3 player with a 7-inch LCD touch screen, USB and AUX connectivity for peripherals; audio system controls on the steering wheel; connection via Bluetooth; a rear camera to ensure parking with ultimate safety; plus a DVD player with a 10-inch LCD screen for the rear seating area.

The new Honda Freed is available in four colors including Brilliant White (Pearl) (an additional 10,000 Baht), Alabaster Silver (Metallic), Crystal Black (Pearl), and a new color, Sparkling Brown (Metallic).
