Honda continues to grow in the MUV segment, by introducing new models of the STEPWGN SPADA and Freed to meet all lifestyles
Bangkok:  Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd. is strengthening its leadership in the Thai multi utility vehicle (MUV) segment and is poised to continually drive the development of the market with the launch of the new 2013 Honda STEPWGN SPADA and Honda Freed under the launching concept of “A New Step to Freedom of Living" at Siam Paragon.  The two new models perfectly reflect the lifestyle of the modern generation of Thai society, which looks for balance in their lives that involves working, spending time on hobbies and fulfilling the happiness of family members.  Honda also kicked off the “Freed Your Mind Design Contest” for undergraduate students to send in conceptual designs of how the Honda Freed could be used in business.
 
According to Mr. Pitak Pruittisarikorn, Executive Vice President, Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd., “The MUV, or Multi Utility Vehicle, has been highly popular in many markets including Japan and Europe for a long time.  In Thailand,  MUVs  continue to enjoy popularity with remarkable growth.  Its all-in-one utility benefits are in tandem with Thai people’s desire for a balanced lifestyle for the ultimate in happy living.  Today, people are balancing three areas of their lives including work, spending personal leisure time and sharing more time with their families. A MUV is an ideal solution as it can be used for business, leisure-time activities and fulfilling happiness with family members, all with a single vehicle.
 
“The new Honda Freed and STEPWGN SPADA that are being introduced today emphasize Honda’s efforts to drive the growth of the Thai MUV market.  Honda is also committed to delivering happy driving experiences and matching the lifestyles of customers who are looking for multipurpose vehicles,” explained Pitak.
 
The new Honda STEPWGN SPADA is a premium-class, 7-seat MUV.  With new styling and enhanced luxury and comfort that delivers an unrivalled pleasant and comfortable experience as it suits all daily lifestyles every day, from working days to weekends, providing new happiness for drivers and their family members for all their journeys.  
 
The new STEPWGN SPADA has a sleek design with a feeling of openness thanks to the wide-angle view through its huge Skyroof. The outstanding exterior features a dark chromium front grill, Smoked HID projector headlights, LED positioning lights, Front fog light, Smoked LED tail light, Dark chromium rear licence garnish and Rear spoiler with high mounted LED stop lamp.  The spacious interior offers second-row captain seats.  The third-row seats fold flat for more storage and multi-purpose use, plus there is an added touch of luxury with premium leather seats and an innovative wood-grain laminate floor.  Power sliding doors with remote control on both the left and right sides of the vehicle offer greater freedom of access for passengers. Other features include an automatic air-conditioning system with additional outlets for rear passengers in the second and third rows, a 7” LCD touch screen combined navigation system and an entertainment system.
 
The new STEPWGN SPADA is powered by an i-VTEC 2.0 liter engine that delivers 150 horsepower, coupled to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a paddle shift.

Active cornering lights, side view mirror support for parking and rear view camera further assure precise and reliable visibility. It also has an Idling Stop with on/off switch activation that enhances fuel efficiency, an ECON Mode that provides efficient engine control for the greatest fuel economy and Eco coaching, a display system that encourages fuel-efficient driving and E20 alternative fuel compatibility. Safety features include Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist, dual SRS airbags and a G-Force Control (G-CON) body structure.
 
The Honda STEPWGN SPADA is available in two variants including: i) the EL variant with a combination of genuine and synthetic leather seats and an innovative wood-grain laminate floor at a price of 1,959,000 Baht; and ii) the E variant with synthetic leather and fabric seats and MAT floor at the price of 1,899,000 Baht.  The Honda STEPWGN SPADA  comes in two colors, which are White Orchid Pearl and Premium Sparkle Black Pearl.
 
The new  Honda Freed is an MUV that is best suited to the freedom of living.  The striking exterior features a stylish front grill and front bumper, multi-reflector headlights, tail lamps with chrome accents, tailgate spoiler and 15-inch alloy wheels. The left- and right-side power sliding doors are an outstanding feature and make it easier to get in and out of the vehicle, especially when parked in a narrow space.  The Honda Freed cabin offers seating for up to seven passengers that can be configured for a variety of functional uses, plus added features such as a DVD player with two 9” LCD touch screens in the rear area and additional air conditioning outlets for rear passengers for a comfortable and convenient travelling experience.
 
The Honda Freed’s powerful i-VTEC 1.5 liter engine generates up to 118 horsepower. It has a 5-speed automatic transmission, rack and pinion steering, electronic power steering (EPS) and the smallest turning radius for a vehicle of its type of only 5.2 meters.  Integrated standard safety equipment includes dual SRS front airbags, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and a rear camera for enhanced confidence on all journeys.
 
The Honda Freed is available in three variants including: i) The EL variant with luxurious leather seats and additional air conditioning outlets for rear passengers.  It also comes equipped with full entertainment facilities including a DVD player with two 9” LCD touch screens in the rear area, and a radio/MP3 audio system with a 7” LCD touch screen and Bluetooth connectivity, at the price of 959,000 Baht; ii) The E, a new variant to offer customers more choice.  Its equipped with luxurious leather seats, additional air conditioning outlets for rear passengers, and a radio/single-CD/ MP3 audio system at the price of 879,000 Baht; and iii) The SE standard variant, which comes with beige fabric seats and standard features at the price of 834,000 Baht. Standard equipment varies according to variants.
 
The new Honda Freed is available in four colors: White Orchid Pearl (an additional 10,000 Baht); Alabaster Silver Metallic; Crystal Black Pearl (an additional 6,000 Baht); and Sparkling Brown Metallic.
 
To enable Thai customers to experience the two new models, Honda is holding an event called “A new Step to Freedom of Living” at the Fashion Gallery on the first floor of Siam Paragon from 25 to 29 September 2013.
 
In addition, Honda is holding a creative contest for young talents called the “Freed Your Mind Design Contest”. It is a competition for the design of a Freed makeover as a vehicle that could really be used to run a business.  Interested undergraduate students nationwide can form groups of 2 to 4 members and create conceptual entries for their Honda Freed makeover for the contest to win total prizes worth over 300,000 Baht.  Entries are accepted from today until October 31, 2013. The top ten teams will be selected for a workshop with famous designers and the judges will select the best three designs.  Honda will convert the top three designs of the Honda Freed makeovers into actual vehicles for display at the Thailand Motor Expo, which takes place in this November 2013. Honda pioneered the Thai multi utility vehicle market segment in late 2009 and is making the MUV market segment more dynamic.  Unit sales for the Honda Freed and Honda STEPWGN Spada during the past eight months (January-August 2013) reached a total of 5,845 units, which represents 37% of the MUV segment.  Taking the lead in this segment, the Honda Freed alone has accumulated sales of 4,931 units, representing a 31% market share.
