Honda Korea Officially Launches Magical Compact SUV 'HR-V'

Seoul, Korea - Honda Korea (www.hondakorea.co.kr; CEO: Chung Woo-young) announced on July 5 that it launches its entry level compact SUV "HR-V" that combines the sensibility of coupe and the practical benefits of RV, and goes on sale in earnest.

HR-V, a compact SUV model unveiled newly by Honda Korea, was rolled out, for the first time, to the world in 2014 LA Auto Show. HR-V is a compact version of world best-selling SUV CR-V, a pride of Honda, and was created by the proven mastery of Honda's SUV technologies.

What enabled the birth of HR-V is the sensibility of coupe, such as high forward visibility and dynamic design, and the functionalities of RV, including best-of-class space usability generated by "magic seat" and generous leg room. Added to these are excellent driving performance and stability achieved by "technology-driven Honda," catering to both the needs of those who drive in a regular city as well as young consumers who enjoy leisure activities over the weekend off the city.

HR-V is priced at 31.9 million won (including VAT), with three color variants of White Orchid Pearl, Alabaster Silver Metallic, and Deep Ocean Pearl.

Stylish and dynamic external design highlighting the sensibility of coupe
Harnessing the Honda design concept, "Exciting H Design," HR-V design is as powerful and robust as coupe, and, in sporty style, more agile than that of regular SUVs. Rear door handle, in particular, is placed next to window line in "hidden type," expressing coupe's nimble and sporty character line. Rear area achieved a high-visibility design with the application of "LED rear combination lamb" to wide and low body.

Center Tank Layout and 'magic seat': magical technology achieving best-of-class space usability
Based on CR-V level wheelbase (2,610㎜), HR-V obtained best-of-class passenger and cargo space with Honda's unique, innovative "Center Tank Layout" design. This is a patented technology of Honda, where fuel tank, typically situated under the rear seat, is relocated under the front seat, giving spacious second-row leg room and head room and thus letting a 185cm-tall adult sit comfortably.

Magical space usability also stands out. Tip-up type "magic seat," applied to rear seats, can secure a height of up to 126cm when the seating face is raised straight up, which effectively accommodates cargos in upright position such as flowerpot, carrier, and baby carriage. Moreover, in addition to basic loading room of 688 liters, up to 1,655 liters of cargo room can be obtained when rear-seat 6:4 folding function is utilized, offering a rich loading space going beyond similar class vehicles.

Smart conveniences and high-end interior design give comfort
Instrument panel and overall interior of the vehicle, including leather gear knob, are toned down in black color, creating sophisticated, premium atmosphere. Cockpit style control interface and high-deck console looking like sport coupe confer both premium value and practical benefits.

Honda's first "touch panel automatic air conditioner" not only enables intuitive manipulation but also generates refined ambiance. The vehicle comes with "safety power sunroof," providing passengers with good lighting and openness.

Korean language-supported 7-inch touch screen display audio is installed, and various plug & play is possible, including hands-free, Bluetooth, HDMI, USB, and power outlet. Basic functions also include smart key and Electronic Parking Break (EPB) and auto hold that significantly improve cruise control and manipulation convenience.

Essence of Honda: environmentally-friendly, high-function powertrain
HR-V is armed with 1.8 liter 4-cylinder i-VTEC gasoline engine and CVT transmission, highly responsive to acceleration. With a great strength of power output up to 143ps/6,500rpm and torque up to 17.5kg·m/4,300rpm, a smooth and pleasant driving is possible. Furthermore, an amplitude selective damper achieves an optimal running stability and good ride quality.

Fuel efficiency also excels. In terms of compound fuel efficiency, it recorded 13.1km/l, a grade of best in class.

Proven, excellent safety: U.S. NHTSA-verified top-grade safety
HR-V has acquired a very good collision safety through body strength enhancement using "ACE (Advanced Compatibility Engineering™) Body" and high ratio of Ultra High Strength Steel. Its excellent safety was proven by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) test in the United States as it obtained five stars in collision test, a top safety grade. Moreover, safe driving is also ensured by such cutting-edge safety assistant systems as multi-angle rear camera in three variant modes, Hill Start Assist (HSA), and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS).

Honda Korea President Chung Woo-young said, "HR-V is an innovative model fully equipped with best-in-class space usability, excellent safety and pleasant driving performance, as well as youthful, dynamic design," says President Chung Woo-young of Honda Korea. "I expect the launch of HR-V in Korea that taps into the essence of SUV master, Honda, will help to bring back the glory of best selling SUV."
