Honda New Zealand Introduces the New 2018 Honda HR-V
•    New tech, modern styling, more responsive drive, class leading space
•    Autonomous Emergency Brake standard – Honda’s City Brake Assist System
•    Sportier RS model added to the line up
•    Top Spec HR-V Sport NT gets more value with Active Safety Tech

The new 2018 Honda HR-V will arrive in dealer showrooms around the country this month with a starting price of $29,990+ORC. For 2018, the HR-V expands its appeal with the addition of new sportier RS grade added to the range. The new HR-V range sees a refreshed exterior and interior design, additional safety technology and more responsive drive, all adding to an already proven highly versatile and spacious 5 door, subcompact, crossover SUV.

The new 2018 HR-V range benefits from refinements to its standard Continuously Variable Automatic Transmission (CVT), resulting in a more natural, responsive driving feel and quieter operation.

The HR-V is the epitome of Honda’s ‘Man Maximum, Machine Minimum’ design philosophy of maximising space available for people and cargo, while minimising the space required for mechanical components.  As a true five seater, the HR-V offers voluminous interior space for both cargo and passengers, with abundant rear seat head and legroom for passengers, inside an exterior package that's both compact and easy to park.

The versatility and cargo space is brought to life with Honda’s unique magic seats that flip and fold in 18 different ways allowing the HR-V to have the perfect balance of passenger comfort, agile driving dynamics and utility. The size-defying boot of the HR-V allows for exceptional cargo carrying, thanks to a potential 1,533 litre capacity.

The entry level, HR-V S is competitively priced and feature packed with City Brake Assist, LED daytime running lights, remote keyless entry, auto climate control, emergency stop signal, customisable speed alarm, electric parking brake with brake hold and tilt/telescopic adjustable steering wheel.

The multimedia functionality of the HR-V remains simple and efficient with a 7-inch colour display featuring Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity and in-built satellite Navigation standard across the range.

Stepping up to the HR-V Active there are new 17-inch alloy wheels, LaneWatch Blind Spot camera, roof rails, smart entry with push button start and a leather wrapped steering wheel and leather gear knob.

The RS variant is all new to the HR-V line up; available in an exclusive new colour, Phoenix Orange Pearl, and designed for the customers who want a more edgy and sporty HR-V.  Driving performance is improved with RS specific suspension and handling, in the form of sports stabilisers and quick ratio steering. Steering feedback is also been improved thanks to a new variable gear ratio steering within the motion adaptive electric power steering, which varies steering response in accordance with steering wheel’s position from centre. The steering becomes more stable at higher speeds as it becomes less sensitive to small movements of the steering wheel. At lower speeds, the steering wheel requires less movement to turn the front wheels. This translates to a more dynamic, direct ride and handling to increase the overall fun to drive experience.

The exterior design of the RS has an exclusive sporty look with 18-inch RS Alloy sports wheels, black chrome front sports grille, black mirror caps, dark chrome door handles, honeycomb front lower grille and fog garnish, a piano black body kit, privacy glass on the rear doors and RS badge.

Inside the RS houses a leather appointed, new seat design with RS trim across driver and all passenger seats, heated front seats, black roof lining, smooth sports leather steering wheel and leather gear knob and sports pedals.

Rounding out the grade line up is the top of the range HR-V Sport NT featuring a further level of sophisticated styling and the addition of more active safety tech without a price increase. The stunning full-length panoramic sunroof is complemented by the leather interior and chrome detailing throughout.  Equipped with front and rear parking sensors, power window with automatic one touch functionality, LED Interior light and LED Map light, Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror, Dual Zone automatic climate control, Electric folding door mirrors, additional high grade sound deadening and an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat.

The Sport NT comes standard with Honda’s Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) featuring Forward Collision Warning, High/Low Beam Support System and Lane Departure Warning.

POWERTRAIN
The 2018 Honda HR-V is powered by a 1.8 litre DOHC i-VTEC® 4-cylinder engine with a Continuously Variable Automatic Transmission (CVT). It produces 105kW @6500rpm and 172NM of torque @4300rpm, with a combined fuel consumption from 6.6 litres per 100km, in combined conditions.

HR-V’s CVT receives numerous upgrades for the 2018 model year to help provide a more natural & sporty feeling driving experience. At full throttle, the CVT now features revised shift mapping that, under hard acceleration, more closely resembles the stepped gear changes of a conventional fixed-gear transmission. This “stepped” feel gives HR-V a more familiar feel during acceleration, while also helping to reduce interior noise levels. Additionally, HR-V’s CVT uses a more refined and natural feeling engagement, staying at lower revs more often. Other improvements include HR-V shifting to higher revs under deceleration, providing a measure of engine braking force and better responsiveness when the driver returns to the accelerator pedal.

SAFETY
The 2018 HR-V also benefits from a long list of standard active and passive safety features. Safety is always paramount for Honda, with the five-star ANCAP safety rated HR-V no exception. This includes Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with traction control, driver and passenger front and side airbags, side curtain airbags with rollover sensor, Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), City Brake Assist and Honda’s next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure.

For the first time Honda’s version of low speed, Autonomous Emergency Braking, called “City-Brake Active” (CTBA) is standard across the HR-V 2WD range providing audio and visual warnings to the driver in the first instance and applying braking in the second, when the vehicle detects a potential collision to minimise the severity. CTBA also includes False start prevention, a function that helps to prevent sudden acceleration in situations where the accelerator pedal is pressed when there is an obstacle detected directly in front of the vehicle.

Honda’s unique LaneWatch Camera is also now standard from the HR-V Active model upwards, providing the driver with an 80-degree view of the passenger side reducing the blind spot significantly; plus all grades are equipped with a multi-angle Reversing Camera with guidelines.
