A.P. Honda Unveils Strategies to Transform Thai Motorcycle Market

Bangkok - A.P. Honda is strengthening its leadership in Thailand’s motorcycle market for 27 consecutive years with its sales at 1.35 million units out of 1.68 million units in the overall market. The company has come up with a new strategy to deliver unprecedented experiences and products to the consumers. In the next two years, 10 new models will be introduced to the market, to meet the changing demand in the age of lifestyle, starting with Honda MSX125SF – an outstanding mini sport bike.

“The domestic motorcycle market remained rather static last year, with total sales of 1.68 million units, or 1% drop from the previous year. Honda sold 1.35 million units, maintaining our market leadership for 27 consecutive years. A factor that has made the domestic market static is Thailand already has a large number of motorcycle users while the economy didn’t see positive influence to boost the purchase. However, the big bike category is still growing, thanks to the high-end consumers in the city. The sales last year reached 19,000 units, a 20% increase. Honda sold about 6,900 units, or a 26% increase,” said Mr Nobuhide Nagata, president of A.P. Honda Co., Ltd., the official Honda motorcycle distributor in Thailand.

“The big bike wasn’t the only category that is growing, but also other high-end motorcycles and hobby bike that offers emotional values. It’s clear that contemporary Thai users do not only buy motorcycles as a vehicle for commuting, but also to have fun experiences and reflect their social status. A motorcycle has become a part of their lifestyle. However, a market leader like Honda cannot stop its development. We are leading the market into the future, with three unprecedented experiences.”

“The first experience is the New Valued Products and Value-Added Products which will be beyond everyone’s expectation. A total of 10 models will be launched within the next two years. One half will be brand new while the other will be all new models.

“The second experience is to improve the network of unique riding lifestyle, by opening eight more branches of Honda BigWing, making 21 in big cities to cater to the increasing group of big bike users. Moreover, we will develop a new concept of network called the New Valued Network to meet the specific demands of the unique users. The project will be launched in 2017.”

“The third experience is to present new funs through diversity of rides at our Active Riding Center. The center has been developed from the original safety riding center – to be the riding hub that establish safety culture for tourism ride; sport ride, to challenge the motorcycle performance and the riders themselves; and off-road ride. Moreover, the center will be the hub for those who have a great passion for bike decoration as it will be the first center to feature all motorcycle accessories and collection from Honda. The Active Riding Center will be officially opened by May, in Chiang Mai and Phuket.”

“For the domestic motorcycle market in 2016, the water shortage crisis may affect the agricultural sector. However, with the efficient management by the government combined with the growing tourism sector, the domestic motorcycle market may see a promising future. The market expects to see 1.7 million units of registration while Honda expects its sales at 1.35 million units. Our big bike category expects to reach 10,000 units out of 25,000 units in the overall market.”

A.P. Honda also introduces Honda MSX125SF, the new Value-Added product, developed under the “Endorphin Clutcher” concept to be a cool mini sport bike with superior design. The model is set for young riders who are looking for a flexible bike to ride in the city.
Honda MSX125SF is modernized with its Sporty Dynamic Design. It comes with new LED headlight and light blue positioning LED line, new full digital meter, new down type muffler, new airplane tank cap, new flip key, and upside down shock absorber.

Honda MSX125SF comes with 4-stroke, 125cc engine, PGM-FI technology, and air-cooled system. It is also equipped with engine stop switch for safety, front and rear disc brake, and red caliper which is matched with the black cast wheels and wide tires.

MSX125SF will be available at Honda Wing Center nationwide, starting from February 26. Suggested retail price is Bt70,500. The model comes in four color options: Burning Red, Hyper Yellow, Booster White, and Eclipse Black.
