Honda Counts Down to World-Class Racing - Welcoming Super GT teams from Japan to the Chang International Circuit, Buriram

 

Buriram, Thailand - Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd., welcomes the Honda Super GT Racing teams and the development engineer teams  from Japan showing their readiness and confidence to join the “Buriram United Super GT Race”. Honda will also showcase its Honda NSX CONCEPT-GT and Honda CR-Z that will join the races during 4 – 5 October at the Chang International Circuit, Buriram province.
 
Mr. Pitak Pruittisarikorn, Chief Operating Officer of Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd., said “As one of the main sponsors of the Chang International Circuit, we are honored to welcome all racing teams from Japan. We are pleased to be a part of this milestone in Thailand’s motor sports with the world-class Buriram United Super GT Race. There will be two Honda models joining the race; five teams in the GT500 class will use the Honda NSX CONCEPT-GT, the next-generation super sport model and two teams in the GT300 class will use Honda CR-Z, hybrid sports car. We would like to invite all Thai motor sport fans to experience this world-class race for the very first time in Thailand.”
 
Mr. Newin Chidchob, President of Chang International Circuit, also joined in welcoming the Honda’s racing teams and has talked about the purpose of building this circuit. “Sports can be used to boost the economy and create a better quality of life for the people of Buriram. We decided to develop Buriram under a concept of being a destination for Sports Entertainment. The Chang International Circuit is part of this development plan and is the pride of Buriram people. The circuit is certified as FIA Grade 1 and FIM Grade A standards so that it can accommodate world-class motor sports events. It is also the only circuit that spectators on the grand stand can have a 100% view of the whole track. Buriram United Super GT Race is the first race on this circuit and it is the first world-class racing event in Thailand.”
 
The Super GT Race is comprised of eight races. Each year there will be one race held outside Japan. The 7th race of this season is, for the first time, being held in Thailand, as the "Buriram United Super GT Race". There will be seven teams using Honda’s racing cars at this event. Five of them use the Honda NSX CONCEPT-GT to compete in the GT500 class, including Autobacs Racing Team Aguri (No. 8), Keihin Real Racing (No. 17), Weider Modulo Dome Racing (No. 18), Epson Nakajima Racing (No. 32) and Team Kunimitsu (No. 100). Two other teams use the Honda CR-Z and compete in the GT300 class including Team Mugen (No. 0) and Autobacs Racing Team Aguri (No. 55).
 
Mr. Masahiko Matsumoto, Honda GT500 Project Leader said “For the Super GT500 Class this season, Honda has switched to use the Honda NSX CONCEPT-GT, the next-generation super sport model with the HR-414E benzene, 2.0 L inline direct-injection 4-cylinder turbo-charged engine. It is the only model that mounts its engine in the middle of the body (mid-ship) in this race, and also the only model in this class which runs on a hybrid racing system. There are also many other developments to enhance its performance and make it ready for any race conditions in the circuit.”
 
Mr. Naoki Yamamoto, the driver from Weider Modulo DOME RACING, said “From the past six races, we earned 47 points, and ranked 4th. For the 7th race, we are excited to be here in Thailand. It is the first time for the GT Race here. We will be doing our best to get the best score and time record in order to gain a higher position for this season.”
 
The qualifying round will be held on October 4, starting at 15:00 hrs. The final round will be on October 5, from 15:00 to 17:00 hrs. Don’t miss the thrills of the 300KM race, through 66 laps, 4.554 KM, on a 12-curve circuit.
 
In addition, Honda will hold many special activities such as the Honda One Make Race competition for the Honda City, Jazz, and Brio (35 cars) that will show their performance to win prizes with an overall value of 376,000 baht. Further, the Honda City, Jazz, Accord Hybrid, CR-Z, and the latest Mobilio, as well as the CBR1000RR, CBR500F, CB650F, CBR500R, CB500F, and CB500X big bike motorcycles, will be displayed at the Honda motor show booth.  Honda Collection merchandise will also be available for sale at kiosks.
